German: DE, roamed far and wide: RANGED = DE-RANGED: Disturbed.

Stupid aged nerd wasn't all there.
"Stupid" is an idicator of an anagram - AGED NERD becomes DERANGED i.e not all there.

Sound of bell indeed, unbalanced.
Sound of bell: RANG, indeed - sneaky this, break it down as in deed - i.e DE rang ED - unbalanced - DERANGED.

Take away scope - it's madness!
Take away: de- scope ranged - DE-RANGED - it's madness.
