my computer won't work ( i am at my wife's computer which she forbids me to use ). i have vista basic, using i.e. browser. the "work offline" has a check mark next to it and even though i tick it off it just comes back and i even went thru a system restore, turn the computer on and off, etc...it is always there. i how i kill the little check so that i an not in a continuing condition of "work offline". i would like a reply before my wife gets home and finds me at her computer.

Hi ! Sorry to hear about your problem. I have no serious idea ....
I hope that your fire-wall and anti-virus system are working in a good way.

IE does this when you really are offline, that is when there's something wrong with your internet connection or one of its pieces of string.

Have you checked your internet connection? Another problem might be your antivirus, you'd better delete it.

Maybe your computer is just being very slow. Look if there are programs running and turn them off

One question: Is it a laptop with wireless connection?

Answer: No
Possible solution: Eat me.

Answer: Yes
Possible solution: Most modern laptops come with the option to turn
wireless networking on/off. On my HP it's a blue touch light-switch (I
touch it with my finger and it lits up). You can find the button (though
not necessarily a button button) somewhere around the keyboard, and it
has an icon that looks like an antenna sending out radiowaves (usually).

If your laptop is missing that "button", you can also activate it through
the control panel->network access. Depending on your brand of
computer the rest may vary, so you're on your own from there.

Like the man said, from his wife's computer which he isn't allowed to use.

Giving up the internet is quite a radical solution though. πŸ˜›

reinfeld: Did it ever connect to the internet?

EDIT: Don't know vista very well, but it might be possible your router settings have changed. You will need to go to the control panel, find where all the wireless connections are set up, delete the old connection to the router, refresh it, and add it again. If your wife has changed the password and wouldn't tell you the new one, you are a bit screwed.

EDIT2: Well, not entirely screwed, you can reset the router back to its factory settings and reconfigure it.

Oh. Silly me. Thinking he's talking about his wife's computer all along. πŸ˜•

Never mind me. Nothing to see here. 😳

Well, if the man would punctuate and write properly maybe I'd get him! 😠

Oh, well. 😞

Did you try your neighbour's internet connection? That always helps me when my internet doesn't work
