Perhaps to settle the argument of whether the first scores are scrapped or not, we could implement the following:

Everyone in the second round starts from scratch, but at the end of the second round, we can have first and second round winners. Then we could just add the scores from the two rounds to decide an overall winner of the WC. Simple but effective.
