Well, that is one reason why in Stephen King's book, he placed it inside a supply closet in an old, no-longer-used diner.

Transpires that my aunt Linda is already using the wormhole in her Kitchen pantry to access her upstairs bathroom. (Spares her the stairs).

It did cause quite a hubbub in certain circles that I leveled my blaster at a stranger I found poking around in my Martian reliquary uninvited and unannounced, but Aunt Linda later thanked me for giving her neighbor Marge a good scare.
