@shallow-blue saidUse of the horn seems to have completely different rules in different cultures. In Paris it's just an outlet for any emotion. The traffic light turns red before you get through - horn... If you can't hear a horn them something is seriously wrong.
I've never driven in either Paris or Rome, but I've walked extensively in both cities. Roman drivers don't give a toss whether they murder you (or themselves) or not, bur Parisian drivers are actively aggressive.

Probably, on a smaller scale, the worst place I have ever driven was on a motorbike slap bang into a waste skip on a dark backroad having swerved to avoid someone I have presumed ever since was up to no good because, even though I clipped him good a proper [he was standing in the middle of the road after midnight], he - very oddly - didn't want to press any charges and the person he was talking to [i.e. a witness] for some obviously clandestine purpose did not want to have anything to do with the police.

@great-big-stees saidThankfully I wasn't driving someone who lived in the area was, my brother. How do people put up with that day after day is beyond me. When I hear people complain about the wait time to cross the bridge. I just tell them to 'chill', at least we don't have the 401 to deal with.
