Would you live off of the grid?

It would be terribly hard going cold turkey, from one day to the next. I'm willing to do without some of the unnecessary luxuries, one at a time though. I try to buy food from local farmers, for example, milk and seasonal fruits & veg--less and less from supermarkets in plastic-wrapped containers. Strawberries in February are absurd, IMO; we would be more appreciative of nat ...[text shortened]... . med., so that's covered. If there's an issue she can't cover, she'll know how to get help.

I’ve often thought warmly about the notion of living off of the grid.

Please add your own ideas on this, but to me that would mean the following:

- rural, isolated location
- no internet
- no TV
- no phone; landline nor mobile
- no utility services such as piped water, sewage or cabled electricity and piped gas

Would you go further with no medical services an ...[text shortened]... nd yet naive TV series “The Good Life.

I’ve gotta be honest … I really couldn't be doing with it.
We used to do that, “in a temporary way”. Back country canoe trips. Fun for a couple of weeks but…πŸ‘

"Drill, baby, drill!" is so last millennium.

Get him off the world stage, banish him to an island like Napoleon on Elba, and I won't be obsessed with him any more.

you must be at least partially, if not mostly insulated, from his bull inna china shoppe antics
personally, i am not insulated from his draconian policies
i think i might be able to list stuff that he has destroyed in the 10000 pixel limit
but i'll just give you one

i will not bore you with the statistics easily found, how much the european union has generated and will continue to generate for a very lost cost
or with my own lament that he has foolishly cut off projects that would supply power to so many folks fo so little money here in the states

simply because he doesn't like them
they make hiz butt itch
and his habit of sniffing his fingers is nasty

he just doesn't like them
they work
holy heck do they work!
but he isn't reaping the rewards

so he doesn't like them
he cuts off funding
demanding folks dig coal
demanding folks burn oil
demanding people live like

Trump is heavily invested in fossil fuels, and, being a fossil himself, cannot get his mind around the idea of investing in renewables instead.

Great idea, weekly seasonal box of fruits & veg, delivered to your door. I think people should stop driving to supermarkets to get food. This is highly destructive of the environment. Much more sensible would be for people to order things online and have a delivery van make deliveries to a whole neighbourhood on a weekly basis.

PS on access to medical care: if people lived more healthily--better diet, more exercise, cleaner air--they wouldn't need so much medical care.
I’ve worked on ‘preserving’ myself since my 50’s. Being an older mother I owe it to my boys to be around long enough to ensure they’re fully independent. I get the medical stuff. Years back we felt it inevitable that we’d start getting sick after 50 but now there’s so much internet info that we’d be better off learning about how the environment, stress and lifestyle negatively impacts upon our metabolism than visiting the doctor for a quick fix with pills.

Ok lets not spoil this 'off grid' thread with irrelevancies. Start another with this same content and I will respond.

Being 70 next year has really changed attitude on life. I’m now accepting and embracing my older age and am thankful for all I have.

You seem to have it just right πŸ‘
I turned 70 last b'day. I can honestly tell you, I didn't feel a day over 69 !

Oh I wasn’t’ “on meds” til a couple of years ago and it was but one because I refused to alter my taste for things that were “bad” for me. And, don’t tell my Dr but I am not very good at taking it as prescribed.😲🀞

@moonbus,
Most people have cell phones now a days all you have to do is set the times for your pills every day and an alarm goes off. If you don't have one, well worth the investment to get one. πŸ˜‰ It works for me!!! We know how slow I can be! πŸ˜‰

Revisiting this thread with a YouTube video and channel recommendation.

This particular video is an hour long but I promise you that will not regret giving the time to watch it.
So settle down with a bevy of your choice and enjoy one man building his own version of “living off the grid” from scratch.

Edit: best watched on TV for bigger screen.
Edit2: this has over 14 million views in 4 months.

Small wonder, since Trump himself insinuates himself into every single aspect of American life.

He WANTS us to talk about him. ALL the time. He's a narcissist. Figure it out.

No, I don't think I would survive long, and even if I did, I don't think I would be happy with just my library and a garden of cabbages (cf. Cicero, who admittedly was not living "off the grid" himself back in his day).
