Just gave my GF a good deal laptop I picked up with a wireless card. Not surprisingly, nothing works right the first try. Everything is in working order, as it connects to my home network perfectly. Her dad seems to have a WPA encyrption for his wireless protection. Upon a little research, seems like this is a slightly more secure method. Unfortunately, it's not as widely used as WEP or Mac-address protection, and therefore more difficult to implement. I gave her a Belken wireless card.
After bitching about people who can't just settle for a little less security with much more versitility, has anyone had experience setting computers up on a network with this wireless setup? Any ideas? At my point now, I may have to start trying different wireless cards to find one that will work in conjunction with windows XP to connect. But even then, windows needs a patch to work with WPA setup. arg!
