I've always loved sharing ideas and absolute nonsense with other writers, so here's an invitation to any writer who's brave or crazy enough to post some of their thoughts.

"writing" is a pretty broad catagory and "writers" an even more varigated lot. shall we discuss dramatic writing? poetry? short stories? politcal rants? blogs? toothpick instructions?

and then there are the subcatagories. if we're not careful, we could end up discussing the political ramifications of colon usage in twentieth century haikus consisting of only wingdings.

it might be interesting to hear WHY people feel the compulsion to write?

or maybe where do words come from?

Did you have enough coffee this morning?😀

It doesn't matter to me, so long as it's not senseless incoherant ramblings of of incessant sychophants.

it's difficult to say if i've had enough coffee? what is enough? i'm drinking coffee now. if i start scampering up drainpipes like a squirrel, i might consider cutting back a bit.

i actually meant my question: why write? i find it interesting to hear WHY people do what they do. it seems to me that humans are amazing justifiers and rationalizers and can come up with reasons for just about anything. So despite that the drive to write might just come from a drive to write, humans still create "reasons". being human, i like to hear people's reasons for writing. or maybe What they write? like someone might say, "I write poetry because i love the sound of words and i also have the attention span of a poodle on crack," or "i write novels because i like sitting alone in little rooms until my fingernails curl over and i go blind," or "i write plays because i want to have sex with actors," or "i write a blog because i firmly believe that someone out there finds the minutae of my life totally enthralling," ... so, what do you write and why do you write it?

You said "coffee"? Oh God, that is the most sacred word.....if you do the drainpipes thing, I suggest wearing good shoes. I have had blisters the size of avocadoes now for about six months 🙂

Anyway, why I attempt to write (and quit and then try again and then use what I wrote as toliet paper, then write again and so on) is because to deal with the drudgery of daily existence. It's escapism for me. I basically work in an office (blah blah blah blah). The people around me are blah blah blah blah. The insipid meetings I have to go to are blah blah blah blah. Instead of acting out on my violent fantasies, I attempt to write. Anyway that's my story and I am sticking to it.

i've almost finshed my mug and strapped on rubber soled boots.

so did you write before you worked in the office of blah blah blah, or did staff meetings awaken your muse?

Well I have always kind of "dabbled" at writing but I have always shot down my own ideas before something worth anything came to light. I was involed in a theater workshop and wrote a couple of short scenes and that's about it.

For me, sitting in the quagmire in the corporate environment has always inspired me if for one main reason, wishing I was anywhere else but there. I look at some of the people I work for and with and I can't understand how they can actually be excited about this crap. I just see it as another eight hours of my life sucked away so I think writing provides an outlet.

Judging by the spelling and grammatical errors in this thread so far, I'd say not one of you could call himself a writer.

So do you make a conscientious effort every day to act like a douchebag or is it something like Tourette's Syndrome for you and something you have no control over?

Okay Stud.

Why don't you dazzle us with your skills? Naw I bet it is easier for you to armchair quarterback the way you are doing, right?

well, i can relate since i used to sit in the back of accounting class in bidness school and scribble endlessly... don't no if i even wrote so much.

ass fer ass righting goez, i twi to wight wit prefect speeling and; grammor... as a Hi Skeewl Englis teechor, i fell it my job to do guwd whith werds, S-pecially when i'm righting posts, which R ginerally consitered Enformal.

me, i lyke all kinds of writin. BUT ONLY WHEN IT"S GRAMATICALLY CORRECT!!! because, of course, people usually speak gramatically, don't they? it's best to write plays where no one ever-EVER ends sentences in prepositions and they pause purposefully where commas should be.

the great thing about writing is that it's fluid. it creeps into everything. i write in order to explore my thoughts. i enjoy it the most when i arrive at a something i didn't expect. this could be a specific character's actions or the twist of line. words follow words, sentences construct themselves (or the good part, at least). i find them most interesting when they defy the confines of grammar and begin to resemble the natural flows of speech.

Well, yours is certainly fluid. Sort of diarrhoeal.

Whatever Slick, you didn't deny acting like a douchebag so I guess you embrace that.

You asked so many dull questions, I decided to answer your best one. The choice was tricky.

God you are full of yourself. Impress me, Tiger. You come off as this know-it-all nimrod and if I am so dull then stimulate everyone with your dazzling intellect?

The sad question is (and I hope this isn't too terribly dull for you) why don't you put something out there for people to review except for your inane commentary on how everyone else sucks?

So this is the way you spend your day, right? Crapping on other's opinions in web conversations? Wow, you are Mr. Excitement! I am in total awe of your lifestyle! You are truly to be envied.....Jacka$$
