Teen who microwaved budgie jailed
From: AAP From correspondents in Auckland
April 04, 2006
A NEW Zealand teenager who microwaved to death a budgie he stole from a school classroom has been jailed for nine months.

Ashley James Daldy, 18, had pleaded guilty to eight charges of burglary and one of cruel treatment of an animal in the North Island city of Hamilton, the Waikato Times reported.
The Hamilton District Court was told Daldy on three occasions broke into the school where he was once a pupil, stealing the pet bird, computer equipment and a video.

He later put the budgie in a microwave oven.

Judge Anne McAloon said the killing of the bird was a "particularly nasty offence" but the burglaries were more serious.

Daldy broke into three other schools and a community hall. He also admitted two charges of wilful damage committed while on bail.

"The worst part of the offending in our collective opinion was what he did to the bird," Hamilton West School principal Catherine McLeod told the newspaper.
"That had huge repercussions for the little kids."

Too bad I live in Christchurch not Hamilton.

EDIT: Actually I'm not surprised someone microwaved a living animal in Hamilton, it's not like there is anything else to do.

if it were a live fish, crab or shrimp boiled in a cooking pot : no offence
how about a live chicken in the microwave?
it must just be the microwave that is the problem or is it something else?

How does what taste? Food is food, decayed flesh doesn't have to taste like anything - i'm surprised you didn't know that.

I once had some leftovers I left out too ling and it was attacked by some ants. So I decided to put the ants in the microwave and nuke them. I cooked them for 30 minutes and nothing happened to them. Can someone explain to me why they all survived. That is until I drowned them?πŸ˜•

I recently tried microwaving green plastic army men. The results were disappointing to say the least.

Saw this on TV. The microwaves aren´t everywhere in the oven. So the clever ants just go there where no beams are and are pretty cool.

I wondered about that too - I found out that once they get hit by a micro-wave they walk about to avoid continuous hits - how true that is I dunno, but I've noticed flies don't always die in them either.

edit, As above.πŸ˜•

I guess that sounds logical. But I am here to tell you those ants are some tough motor scooters. One of those the size of a horse could whip an Army. Two could whip the Navy.
