Tomorrow it'll be 17 weeks ago that i started playing a clan game against a certain opponent. Although this person has always had less than 20 games to play, and logs in multiple times per week, (s)he only makes a move when his/her timebank is being used, or about to be used. With a time-per-move period of one week, we are now at move 18. It's as if this person considers making a move the same way I used to consider eating a brussel sprout when I was a kid: don't do it unless you're absolutely forced to.

I wonder: is (s)he being forced by his/her mum to play chess here?

lol ...

I've got a few opponents like that as well ... Only moving when they have too ... Nothing much you can do - maybe you wanna offer a brussel sprout ;-)

Although sometimes I understand the logic behind it ... say you are playing a tourney and you are in a difficult group - maybe you wanna check how other's are doing before putting effort into the game ... Same applies to clan game obviously ;-)

pah! I've got games going that are over a year old, and that's all my fault. At times I do exactly what your oppo is doing. I'll log in frequently, browze the forums, move in easy games. But in the tough games I'll look at the board, think about it, look at it the next day, still have no clear idea what I'm going to do, and it'll not be until I am either eating TB or I see a clock that I am forced to make a decision. Am I wrong to do this? I don't think so. If my opponents mind then they can ask me to speed up. If they really wanted a game where I moved every day then they should have started a 1 day TO game with enough timebank to cover days when they couldn't move.

Do change your move frequency in your profile to match the LOWEST move rate then.

If you say you'll move once a day, you have to move every game once a day if you can. This by moral considerations, no-one can actually force you to move 🙂

as mine is - once per week even hough most games will get 2 or 3 per week

This not true.

You cannot be forced to do anything you don't want to.

True, sometimes the alternatives are undesirable, but you ALWAYS have a choice.

I disagree that the "move frequency" setting is an indication of how often you move in every game. Rather, it is an indication of how often you log into RHP to make moves. If you are playing a game with a 1 day timeout, you may well be making a move per day in that game. A game with a 21 day timeout, however, you will tend to defer, only making moves when all your more urgent games have been dealt with.

So you may yaaaaawwwwwnnn, but there is only one remedy to that, and that is to play sufficient games to avoid boredom. Your opponents have every right to play as slowly as they like within the agreed time restraints.

I know that, and that's why I didn't say anything to him/her about it. But it does make me wonder why anyone would wnat to play like that. This is a chess site, so: play chess!!

And don't get me wrong: I do also take my time when it comes to the hard parts of the game. But to take a full week for the first move, THAT is pushing it...

I am playing someone whose name might be nosvaratue who has taken two months so far for 16 moves. I asked him why and he said he likes being rude. So now I am taking forever with my moves as well.
