You Tube killing itself with ads

You Tube killing itself with ads

General

Viewership on You Tube has been slowly declining for months now, just as the percentage of ad time has been slowly increasing. Scarcely 3 min. go by without some idiot interrupting what you watch, trying to sell you everything from insurance to credit cards, to insect spray.

You Tube - Please understand that you've reached the tipping point and are now slowly killing your business by grabbing evermore ad revenue off your shrinking viewership. Is your ego going to allow this to continue, or are you going to scale back the ad time, and win back your viewers?

Problem: offereing things for free to become big at a large cost to cash in at some point.

Cashing in is of course not as easy as it looks on the plan.

I am not much in youtube, but understand that they have to cover their cost. If I see too much advertisment I just don't visit anymore.

Youtube make some great music mixes for me. Love listening to them when out rambling with my dog and have got used to skipping the frequent ads. I’d subscribe for ad free but £11.99 per month is outrageous.

YouTube is my first go-to for most things these days and whilst the ads can become a bit annoying there’s no way I will pay £11.99/month to not have them.

I love the platform; you can find virtually anything about anything on there and I follow about 25 channels.

I listen to MOATS on YouTube, the ads are annoying but to be fair you can usually just skip them.

uBlock Origin on Firefox - stops 'em all.
It's the only way I watch anything on YouTube now. Only ads you get are the ones where the content itself is the ad. Injected nonsense is bye bye.

Works on desktop and mobile.

Side topic: Why are adverts generally so crappy, loud and annoying?

I understand the “getting noticed” idea, but I turn the volume right down, go for a bathroom break and just ignore them.

Having worked in sales for decades and sat in marketing presentations, I can imagine the ppt presentations with consultancy build slides full of charts looking like the London Underground map on acid, underpinned by cheesy strap-lines about cross-demographic engagement ratios and views-to-website-hit numbers per burst.

I used to sit there thinking why are sales down across all our core revenue channels… oh yeah I forgot … it’s the sales rep’s fault. All of them 😂

What else do you get for £12?

And why am I wide awake at 2am when I need to wake up early tomorrow?

I'm not on YouTube much, watch the stick to football podcast which is getting annoying with Gary Neville selling out and endorsing every other product going and some music videos if I'm on the laptop. Do pay for Spotify to avoid the ads though, and play music while offline.
