My sister went to her 30th high school reunion over the weekend. I have not had a chance to talk to her yet. But I still remember a few of the "kids" that were in her class, though obviously not as many as I remember from my own class.
Got any stories? Any huge surprises about what sort of job old so-and-so wound up doing, or how many kids that gal had, or how many times that guy has been married? Ugly duckling turns into swan? Or vice versa? 😛
(For those outside of the USA, maybe I should add that high school would be the early-to-mid teen years.)
I will sahre with you a conversation I had with a guy (Robert) at my 10 year hisg school reunion.
me: "Hey, good to see you, Robert. I did not think you would make the trip all the way from germany."
Robert: "I did not come from Germany."
me: "Oh, do you live here in the states now, then?"
Robert: "I have always lived here..."
me: "So you were not a foreign exchange student?"
Robert: "No"
me: "Well, it was good to see you...I'll just be going now."
I'm such a fool...

Funny you started this thread now- I was just sent an email yesterday concerning my 10 year reunion that will be coming up this next year so it's been on my mind. I always thought I wouldn't want to go when the time came, but I really would like to. Don't know if it'll be possible because of vacation time, money, etc. (I'm in Washington State, my high school is in Colorado) But it would be nice to see everyone again.

I went to my 10 year reunion in 2001. It was nice to see the old faces again and play catch-up. But, over-all, I must say that I was a little disappointed. It seemed to me that most people acted with worse behavior than they did when they were in school. Surely, my class or me didn't act so stupid. It was like so many people were being something that they were not to impress others. My suggestion is - If you go to a reunion, be yourself!
I doubt I will go to another one. I keep in contact with those that are my friends, but truthfully, in the future I would rather spend time with my own family then I would to spend time listening to lies and phoney acting people.
I'm sure there are many people that LOVE going back to their reunions, and that's great. But for me, I'd rather play chess
😉

Reunions are for one of two things:
a) Look at me now show-off b.s., or
b) Hook up festival
Just stay away.

And how fierce put it. Everybody showing off what they've become or acting like they've become something better than what they are.
I'd still like to see everybody though. I've lost track of every single person I went to high school with, even my really good friends. My fault of course. It would be nice to get in contact with a few of them again.
So I don't know. One thing's for sure though, I can't believe my 10 year reunion is just around the corner- boy does time fly!!

Interesting comments. A former co-worker told me his 20th was more enjoyable than his 10th, because at the 10th people were bragging about what sort of job title they had, and by ten years later there was less boasting and more camaraderie. He thought that it was easier to break through the clique barrier at the later reunion as well. The "most unusual job" award went to a woman who worked at a fertility clinic, counting sperm. I guess somebody's got to do it. 😵
