zach918 and co. Enough is enough...

Several people have been giving you folks hints about the way you are ruining this forum. And some people have given it to you straight. Unfortunately to no avail.

You don't seem to understand how frustrating it is for people to visit a forum and see the same name on virtually every thread. This would be OK if the content of the posts wasn't, in the majority of cases, totally pointless and many good responses, from other people, are being ignored because they are getting buried.

Some of you are obviously posting just to get your post count up and I can understand this, but please realise that a forum such as this can not flourish under a deluge of spam.

Just ask yourself before you post:

1. Is this post going to be of interest to other forum users or am i just posting for the sake of it?

2. Is this post of any other value? ie: is it funny or informative?

3. Have I made a reasonable attempt to read the whole thread and avoid repeating someone else's question/answer/comment?

It's all a matter of proportion-- I think there's a place in the forums for idle chatter (which to be honest bothers me far less than the accusations, recriminations and general hostility that have cropped up in the forums on occasion). I didn't even mind the "longest thread ever" postings, because that was confined to a single thread, which I could entirely avoid (if I chose).

However, multiple posts in every single thread, by the same people, are unneccessary. Posts that consist of a couple of words and a smiley are generally not very useful. And when half the posts in a forum are by the same couple of people, something is out of whack.

It hardly seems fair to require that every post be serious and substantive (many of forum posts by adults would fail to meet this standard). But a little moderation and judgment in posting are definitely called for.

I agree that the 'post count' statistic is causing some of the 'spam' posting, and it's removal would be no loss, in my opinion.
