As you [b]all know, Chicago White Sox and Huston Astros are now the 2 greatest baseball teams in the entire world. Now, who will win the 7 game World Series to become the one and only greatest team in the entire world?
I'm going with Chicago in 6 games.

I hate to pour scorn on any sports event, but why do they insist on calling American sports events World Series. I know that very few other countries play Baseball and American Football, and therefore the winners of the domestic American competition may well be the best team in the world, but goddamnit I find it a little bit arrogant.
Are there any international baseball teams in the World Series, and am I right in thinking that there are Canadian teams in the NBA or is it just in the NHL? (and are they still on strike?)
I feel a little bit sorry for Americans because you don't get to beat Australia in your big national sports. There's nothing quite like beating the Aussies...

I was asking about the other countries because I don't know. Baseball's big in Japan isn't it? Do they play or is it just Canada and the US.
I still think it's kind of arrogant to call a (virtually) domestic tournament the world series, but it's just an observation.
(Just like to say again, I'm NOT an Aussie. Not until they regain the Ashes next winter anyway...)

Originally posted by AnwylydI know it takes 4, was just joking around =P. I wouldn't be surprised if the Astros pull this one out. The Sox bullpen only worked in 1 game in the ALCS so if they have to get brought into the game they might be rusty. The starting pitching probably won't be as fantastic as it was either. The Astros went up against some great pitching in the NLCS (Chris Carpenter, Mark Mulder, and a good bullpen) and took them apart. Except in game 1, Carpenter pitched well in that one. The Astros also have a good, solid, hardly any letdown rotation. They have Clemens in game 1 and have Pettite and Oswalt later on in the series. Not to mention a great closer. It'll be fun to watch for sure.
Good thing they have to win 4 to take the series... I say Sox in 6, though personally I would like to see the Astros take it, rootin' for the underdog, but it is unlikely they will win, but they want it enough, they'll get 2 games.

Baseball's a bit like that - big in the USA, Cuba (but you've got sanctions against them), Japan and Mexico. That's about it, as far as I know. At least with rugby or cricket we can get 18 nations together who've qualified to play in a World Cup. Soccer's much bigger, of course. I've always thought it was a travesty to call US baseball's biggest competition the World Series - because it does not involve the world.

Many players come from Cuba to play here, as they do from Japan and several other countries.
The world series was named back IN the days when the US ruled the world... oh, wait... we still do.
