I’ve a few acquaintances who do this now and then. I wonder if they feel a need to get a message from a deceased relative or from someone in their family tree? . Maybe it’s part of the bereavement process for some?

I once visited a lady claiming to be one when I was young.
She came out with things like ‘January’ , ‘July’ …. then saying ‘who do you know born then?’, thinking she’d spotted a reaction.
Then she came out with names like ‘John’ , ‘David’, ‘Robert’, and not one single Slavic name like Kazimir, Alexei or Jarek which would have had some relevance.

She asked me which college I was in thinking my random striped scarf a clue, I told her none. She asked if I wanted to go to college? I said yes and told her I was studying art in night school. She told me I would become a commercial artist …. Wrong again as I ended up studying fine art.

She ended saying ‘Come and see me again when the violets come out’.
