This shows up in posts sometimes. What is the maximum allowable word length, for future reference?

With experimenting, it looks like 29 characters is the limit...

Yes, TT, we know about the 29-character thing. I just wanted to know WHY.

Don't take that from a chicken! Even a royal one! He asked what the limit was, not why the limit was 29.

I would type a 30 letter word right now, but I can't think of any.

We had to put this in to chop excessively long strings of characters that were appearing. Sometimes people like to post long lists of smilies, which, although somewhat amusing, really throws the formatting of the forums out of whack sometimes.

I'll try to implement a friendlier way of doing this soon!

Seems like the forums are going to get some changes... I think some of the threads should be culled out. It's neat to be able to go back and see what people posted 3 years ago, but their seems to be a lot of trouble for Chrismo in the forum posts tonight.

Short term solution, Chrismo could just asked rwingget to abbreviate a few words per long-winded post. That would probably save several hundred characters a month.

I think perhaps the letter count should be reset at each "/", otherwise it makes is impossible to paste links to various useful things such as the game analysis page e.g.
www.redhotpawn.com/gameanalysis/boardanalysis.php?gameid=259558

i noticed it on a http:// link, which can commonly be 30+ chars.
Of course, if we had the URL BB code active, that wouldn't be a problem.... πŸ™‚

Maybe you could stop them typing in that word before it reaches the limit.
