Blitz chess?

I was looking at the Blitz chess microsite.

Can somebody explain to me what "initial time" and "increment" are?

initial time is the total at the start, incremental time is an added each time you move.

In blitz chess what do the symbols preceding each player's name mean? They don't seem to be explained anywhere.

When I try to start a game, I find I'm unable to move.

I click on a piece and there's a noise but nothing indicating I can move. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you. That was it exactly.

Been having some problems on blitz chess. I get halfway through a game, and then my oponent seems to stop moving, and his clock ticks away to zero. But when it reaches zero, nothing happens - I don't win on time or anything, the game just sits there.

This has happened in several games now. Any idea what's happening?
