It's not impossible as it is a single field in a database table.

If you ask Russ nicely he might do it. I'm sure if you asked whilst subscribing it might be more likely to happen.

Tip - use 'find player' to find a name that is not taken already before you ask. It must be unique.

Yes, you can change your name. I talked to someone a bit ago that did just this. It is very possible.
