Is there any way to play chess where we play as if we are having a live game? I only have been able to play or challenge online games that take multiple days to complete.

Give blitz a try. They are live but unrated games at this time.
The link is near the top of the page, toward the right side of the page.

    Thanks everyone, for your replies.

Blitz is beyond me. I'll stick with online chess.

I haven't tried it myself, but it looks like with blitz you could set up a 1 hour game with even more time added to remaining time for each time you make a move. Maybe that would be long enough.

I think I have that right. Someone will surely correct me if I have it wrong....

I've set very long games in Blitz. You may find it difficult to get opponents though, many of the players there seem to be in a hurry!
