It is an opening system based on a d4 opening for White. By system, I mean that White's pieces are developed to certain squares , usually regardless of Black's replies. If you don't want to get bogged down in opening theory, the placement of pieces on the same square every time might appeal to you.

Monty Moose is quite correct, the Colle-Zukertort, Colle System, etc is an opening for white that has an opening series of moves that is almost identical every time. I have played over 7000 games oat RHP with the white pieces, and I can honestly say that I believe at least 6500 of them have been the Colle. If you play tournament chess, one fantastic advantage of this opening is you can snap off a lot of moves quickly, conserving your clock for middle and endgame play.
