I designed an animated avatar on photoshop. Can I use it (each frame is 50x50)? If this won't work, then how do some people's avatars have motion?

Do you realise animating avaters are very annoying. Almost more annoying than animating ads?
Please don't do.

Ok. Let's pretend that I am not going to use it here. How do I do it so that I can use animated avatars elsewhere?

just save the animation as a gif file.
Very few are ever worth the effort but
there are some that work well.

Yeah I tried saving from Adobe Photoshop as a gif file but when I open it with browser it just shows the first frame. Here I'll give it a shot and see if it will work here.

Edit: Yeah gif isn't working. Hmm . . . any ideas?

sounds like one of the following
1) your browser isn't showing animations (there is a setting that turns them off),
2) the animation setttings (speed etc) are not right
3) you only saved the first frame
4) something typically weird happened: its a PC after all...

Press Escape when a page loads, and all animated gifs on the page stop.

So who died and made you God. If you don't like the animation, after the page loads hit "Esc" and the animation stops.

I see you've got it working now. What was the problem? (in case somebody asks again).
