I would like to start my own tourney, mostly because of the restrictions on point levels they all seem to have, which exclude me playing against my far superior buddy list. Someone please throw me a bone!

The only way that you can create a tournament is to be the leader of a club or clan. I'd recommend starting a club and telling your buddies to join.
