Check out hatamin. He's played the same person every game. The first is interesting as he leaves his queen undefended and mates on the next move. Can't see anyone falling for that.
Admitedly he could be playing a friend but they fell for the same trick 5 times in a row.
Heh. Yeah, it does seem odd that he keeps winning with the exact same moves ( 1.e3 f6 2.d4 g5 3.Qh5# ) over and over. (What is that tricky opening they keep playing, anyway, the Kavorkian Defense, Pufferfish Variation??)
At the same time, I'm not sure who this kind of 'cheating' hurts, other than the poor soul who does it. I mean, are the ratings for the game, or the game for the ratings? If like most people the game is what's important to you, then at worst what this person is doing is making themself look like they could take you in a game, when most likely they haven't a prayer. So challenge them. Hey, free rating points, right?
Just so there is no doubt, here is their only actual game...Game 596839. As you can see, white is a billion and a half miles away from being 1700+ rated.

Heh.
Actually, it's the free rating points that IS the harm this sort of cheating does. If someone with artificially inflated rating looses to an honest player, that honest player's rating will then be artificially inflated - not by much, but still.
In this way, this sort of cheating distorts the accuracy of the rating system in general, and is thus not completely harmless.
In the past, I think Russ has dropped cheaters like this, when caught, back down to 1200... so I guess this fate will be waiting for this particular cheat as well. 😀
