I may be wrong, but I thought obvious drawn games, such as only kings remaining were awarded automatically?.
This doesn't appear to be the case anymore as I have just had to claim a draw in this position

Dave, I may be wrong as well, but I'm pretty sure you will need to claim a draw whenever you think the conditions exist for one. So if you aren't sure or even if you think a draw situation exists, just claim the draw and then move. If the claim is not valid, it is ignored and the game continues.

The only exception I know of is a stalemate, which is automatically recognized and declared.

Cheers.
I thought there was something "automatic"

Dave,
I also thought it has been automatic, did it change with the New Format? Or was always that way I wonder. I really haven't been in that position a lot of times, in fact I can't recall a situation where I was, but must have been at some point with all my games played.

In a live tournament game, even obvious draws (such as insufficient mating material on both sides) must be witnessed and the clocks stopped by an arbiter.

So the draw must be claimed, i.e. an arbiter brought over.

I suppose I could be corrected if someone knows better.

In my memeory there was never an automatic draw with insufficient material, but it always possible to claim.

I might be lured into looking in twenty year old posts to support my memory...

Edit: What a journey through the olden times.

I found two threads in which the necessity to CLAIM the draw has been discussed 20 years+
