    OK, I recently got Fritz 8, and find it diffucult to use. Is it possible to set positions, to try and look for mates in n for example? If so how?

    there is File - New - Position setup.. (or something like that.. don't have it in front of me).. and you can setup the board however you like

    I believe there is a checkmate finder too I believe but I haven't used it.

    Yes, fritz's instruction manual isn't very good. It takes some exploration on one's own to figure it all out. But if you have any specific questions, you can ask me.

    The Checkmate finder: I think the simplest way to find checkmates is to let the program do an infinite analysis. I think there is something specifically designed for this, but I've never figured it out.
