Does any techno know how to persuade a pc to run video clips again following a rebuild? I've downloaded real player again but it does not pick up video clips as it used to. Presumably some setting is wrong. Any ideas?

If you go to Add/Remove programs [via,Start/Contol Panel] on the left click the button for "Set Prog Access & Defaults".
Then in the "Custom" section ensure the box for "Enable access to this prog" is checked for RealPlayer - or you could make it your default player...If you really wanted to that is 🙁
If still no go - you could try reinstalling Real Player or try with:
