Is there anybody out there clever enough of finding a way to hide your opponents rating till the game is won or lost, would it be possible to have a whole other group of players who'd prefer to play 'incognito' so to speak?
I find it affects my game massively if I'm playing against a high-ranking player and tend to just give in - as my pathetic ranking indicates...
@Campaigner
I have your previous request for this recorded. Thread 199647. Do you just want it hidden on just the board page when playing? I assume so.
Anyone else support this feature?

Please don't beat yourself up about this. I used to have the same issue and found 2 things that helped a lot.
1. Most of your lost games have come as a result of tactic errors, so in addition to playing your games, start a daily program of tactics puzzle training. At your level I'd suggest Susan Polgar's book Chess Tactics for Champions. Set up each position on a physical board and study just as if you're playing in a tournament, IMPORTANT: If you get an answer wrong, set up the position again and play through the CORRECT sequence of moves at least 3 times. If you finish this book, you'll no doubt see some improvement, then you can progress to others, such as The Woodpecker Method. Daily tactics training is a big part of becoming a stronger player.
2. Once you're past the opening (book) moves, set up your position on a physical board and spend at least 20 min. on each move. Once you think you found a good move, look for a better one. You have several days to make each move, so don't rush.
Put these 2 things into practice and in a few months and you'll start beating those higher rated players. When that happens, the psychology issues will be their problem - not yours! 🙂
@Campaigner saidI don't take a lot of notice of opponent rating.(or my own for that matter!)

The rating shown is only "current" rating which is affected by recent results.
I've played many a player where the rating displayed doesn't necessarily reflect ability.
But if it affects your enjoyment of the game why not have it as an option. Personally,I would not use it.
@Russ saidYes, sometimes I look at the rating instead of the board.

@Campaigner
This is now available from Site Settings "UI Options" and will turn the rating on/off for all active boards (play, analysis and the game log) when disabled unless game is compelte.
A site announcements post will be made later with more detail.

Good Plan!! I would sooner see my opponent's rating personally. So having the option to turn it off or on is good as far as I am concerned.
