Am I missing something really obvious here ....... How do I say that I am on holiday ?

Click on 'my home' near top of page.
In the drop-down menu, click on 'vacation settings' near bottom of list.

On the top bar under "my home", there is a choice called "my vacation settings". You can put yourself on vacation there
