each time i beat a player my rating goes down, admittedly they a rated below me but still, i would have got a better rating had i not played them at all!
does ranking come purely from wins or statistics with a game, ie checks, pieces taken??
sorry if this is obvious to everyone else

Your rating goes down when you win games because you are not a member.
If you are going to answer questions at least answer them correctly.
The only way your rating can down when you win a game is in the first 20 games under the provisional rating system. After that point, member or not, your rating will never decrease after a win or increase after a loss.
