More funny symbols

What do all the funny little yellow boxes - of different sizes - and with different symbols in them, mean.
And no, I don't mean the smiley/frowney ones. I'm talking about the one that appear if you look at the newcommers top twenty or do a name search - the ones just to the left of 'challenge player' on the right.

These have been there sometime, but you are right, they are not documented in the FAQ :
