Up to now I've assumed that the move reminder icon came up after a
reminder had automatically been sent to ones opponent. I am now
correct in thinking that you have to click on this icon to send the
reminder?

Your current thinking is correct.

The icon shows only when you can send a reminder. You may only
send one per 24hr period.

Right - that's seven reminders on their way!

For further enlightenment, does the server send any other kind of
automatic reminder, or is clicking on the icon the only way a reminder
is sent?

..and never having had a reminder sent to me 😉 does the reminder
come as an email with RHP listed as the sender or does it include
ones email address?

No automatic reminders are sent. So you need to act if you want to
prompt someone.

I thought a reminder was sent when I made a move. Is this the case
or am I to send a reminder after I make my move? Thanks!

You will get an email if your opponent made a move but you can
deactivate that in your settings. In other words. If your opponent
deactivated that setting he will get nothing unless you click on that
reminder icon.

I have been clicking on the reminder icon but sometimes it doesn't go
away leading me to think that the reminder was not sent. Can anyone
enlighten?

No it doesn't go away - bit of a glitch that - but as long as you get the
message saying a reminder has been sent I think you can assume it
has been. Don't keep clicking! ;-)

I think what happens in your case is your opponent has registered with
a false e-mail address. The reminder is sent, but bounces because of
the fake address. You see that it was sent, but not that it bounced. So
the reminder icon pops back up right away.

I could be all wrong on this.

Best bet is to ask Russ or Chrismo to look into this...

No, Marc - email doesn't get returned THAT fast - wish it did! It's just a
slight bug in the software - you do need to remember which one's
you've clicked on though to avoid sending multiple reminders.
