    i am new to this game and can not make my first move. i've followed the directions but when i click on 'move', the boxes turn pink. pls help.

    ok. let me just go ahead and acknowledge my ignorance to the game. i was trying to move a pawn in any direction...just for starters.

    I suggest that you buy an inexpensive chess set. These usually have basic instructions. Also buy an introductory type chess book. Study the basics first.

    if the squares turn pink it was an illegal move. Usually we only see this when ywe try to castle when we can't or some other oversight, but if you're seeing it at the first move I guess you don't know the rules (?). Can you get someone to show you how to move the pieces? Once you have at least that you can learn as you go.

    just figure out my mistake. you're all right. i need to buy a beginner's book to chess and refresh my skills. ok. maybe refresh is not the word i should use. learn, perhaps. thanks for all the help!
