Passed pawn

What does this expression mean?

Does it mean past half way on the board?

Or Past the point where other pawns can capture it?

I'm confused.

The latter.

But I'm sure you're having me on.

a passed pawn is one that isnt blocked by opposing pawns
and it has no opposing pawns in an adjucent file which could possibly capture it...it must be stopped by pieces.
