is there anything the admins can do to stop people from starting then deleting games.. its getting really anoying now.. i had over 6 games deleted in past two days.. can you not write a script to detect these imbeciles and delete their accounts 😀 .. silly people

If someone bothers to ask me if I'd be happy to play them I usually do, but I don't like to play blind challenges with provisional rated players or new non-pawn stars.
Originally posted by ExyI think he is referring to open invites he has either accepted that the inviter cancels (I've done this but only with a reason which I PM the deletee) or that he was the inviter and someone accepts the game and then deletes it. The second one is the one that would get on my nerves especially if it was happening often or by one person repeatedly.

Originally posted by XanthosNZI made the assumption that we were talking about open invites, as people have sent feedback complaining about this recently.

Yes the open invites games of mine are being repeatedly deleted.. I would love to join your network. But im in a bit of a dilemma we're currently selling our house, and when we move to new home may not be able to get inet in that area.. because it will be in the country side.

I had two games deleted by nightwing05 within secounds of each other, was both in the open invites he/she deleted them both.. this tells me it wasnt a mistake but just being a git.
very annoying. Could it be coded that if someone accepts an open invite that they lose the ability to cancel the game without losing points?I can't imagine a common reason why someone would want to cancel a game that they chose to accept.
On the other hand, the person who put out the chalenge should retain the ability to cancel it if they so desire as it is quite possible that it will be accepted by someone they do not wish to play (eg. a >1400 challenge being accepted by a player who is usually 1700 but has recently fallen to 1300).
A third (small) idea - could it be possible to code in a comments box that pops up when anyone cancels a game, giving the option to PM their oponent with a reason. This could reduce irritation at unexplained deleations.
Just thinking...

Yes i agree with you belgianfreak theres no reason anyone would accept a game and then delete it.. I got an idea maybe this should be in the "site ideas" forum but since its releated to this post i'll post it here.
I think it would be good idea to have a filter which user can add names/nicks to which is like an ignore list.. so once you add them to your ignore list they can no longer accept games created by yourself.. then once a month a script could search users "ignore list" and if somebodys "nick" is detected more than 50 times, this will detect misbehaving users.

Some newbs aren't entirely clear on what type of site this is, ie: potentially days between moves. They accept an open invite, expecting the game to kick off immediately, then, when after 1 hour, no move has been made, they think 'bugger this', delete the game, and accept another open invite. If you posted the time stamp on your emails, then we could tell for sure.
If you look at the users you posted as deletees, then you'll notice that they have completed a lot of games in a short space of time.
I may be wrong, but it looks feasible to me. I don't think that deletions should be penalised, as that could upset some new users. I don't think they're being prats on purpose either, just not being very considerate, and worrying about their open slots rather than their opponent.

Originally posted by RagnorakI have a better suggestion. Refresh every minute or two until the first 1.5 moves are played (White makes his 2nd move). After that, the game can't be deleted. (I think)

This both saves you $30 and avoids having to commit to a clan or tournament. Sometimes, you just want to play a game or two without any other strings attached. Better to play a few games first before paying - try before you buy.

I now think the reasoning is that if you are not allowed to time out your opponent within the first 3 ply, then you have to be allowed to delete the game as a fallback. Lots of new players offer open invites and then don't respond once they're accepted.
That being said, I believe that players on the site aren't patient enough about deletion. The only sure way I have found to guarantee a game starts is to play those first 3 ply as fast as possible.
