Help. This tournament just started and all of my games were given a board that is about 8 moves into it. The games are identical, and my clock is running. What are we supposed to do?

its a thematic tournament., each start starts from the set opening position. luckily you joined a tourney with not too hard of an opening, or dangerous

try to look up a few sites that talk about it and get some pointers.

If you go to the tournaments page there can be a little white square with a black T in it behind a tournament name. This T indicates its an Thematic tournament.
All other tournaments start (normal) games with 0 moves made.

Thanks again to all of you. I was looking to increase my number of games, and just randomly entered tournaments for which I was eligible.

One more question -- Are these games rated the same way as other games?
