quoted tags not being ended

I think I've just figured out why some posts end up all bold or italicised.

When the software shortens text (e.g. [text shortened] ) sometimes an end tag is removed, which leaves anything following being formatted as per the last tag.

Probably someone has already spotted this before though...I can't imagine it's all that simple to fix.
