Rank and File!! notation!!

Can anyone explain it?? Where does rank go, and where does file
go?? what, or how, does algebraic notation work?? what does a "Bxc4"
mean?? can anyone explian it's complexities; i have an idea, but,
there is people here that have never heard of notation, never mind
it's different forms!!
