rating question......

I lost a game to a player with a rating of over 100 points more than me and my rating went down by 12 points , yet I beat a player with a rating the same as mine and my rating only went up 8 points . I dont know if anyone else is the same as me. I have played more than 20 games.

yes but was either of your opponents provisional ??

You need to search the Help pages for the formula that's used. It's an inverse exponential of the difference of your scores thingy. I've put the formula in a spreadsheet so I can quickly work out the risk to reward of playing someone given our current ratings.
