When you play a non rated game it does not affect your rating. It counts as a win or lose, but your rating is not affect. It says by the game if its rated or not. Also when someone challenges you or on a open invite if you look closely before you accept the game it tells you if they have the challenge a rated game or non rated. You can decline it if you wish.
