    just wondering, can the ratings on this site be compared in any way to standard ICU/ELO ratings which are awarded otb? Thanks

    Yes. The formula can be found in the FAQ.

    If you are a subscriber: RHP rating + 500 = FIDE rating

    If you are a non-subscriber: RHP rating - 500 = FIDE rating

    As you may have guessed, the real answer is that there is no connection between the 2 rating systems.

    The hard part is people play different different places, as well as the difference in comparable numbers.

    For example. You might play OTB with an OJ, clear mind, and a Snickers Bar.

    You might play the same way here.

    You might play here with a beer in your hand, tired late at night.

    You might play OTB thinking out each move.

    You might play here 30 or 200 games at a time moving every 40 seconds.

    Your OTB opponant might be rated 1400, and plays as 1900 here.

    Or they might play OTB as 1900, and here as 1400.

    There are too many factors to say, "If you are rated 1400 OTB you are probably rated 1900 at RHP".

    you can also play with an analysis board here. that would be the same as moving the pieces around first in an OTB tournament.
