Can you try going to the "My Settings >> My Sound Settings" and turning off sound.

This was introduced today, and I suspect this is the cause of your issues.

A fix for IE8 users has gone live, so the above steps are now not required, but sound is not supported on your browser. Move to IE9 or better, as IE8 support will end altogether at some point.
