Usernames

Tell me... How often to people change their usernames?

I have been reviewing a few of my old chess matches lately and have found games against people I really cannot remember playing - usually I am quite good with names etc..

Is there any way to find out if any given person has changed their username in the past and if not is it possible to implement one?

Except in very unusual circumstances, nobody can change their username. Russ has done in on request once or twice, but that's the only way. So I'm afraid its just the old brain cells after all...
