Can anyone explain the scoring of individual games which makes up the
overall rating ?
ie Is it x points for a win, regardless ? x points lost in a defeat ? Or,
does the rating of the particular opponent affect how much you accrue
or indeed lose from your rating ?
I can't make any sense from the ratings at all !
Any enlightenment would be much appreciated.
Originally posted by averagejoeThe rating of your opponent (in relation to your own) affects how much points you win or lose. You never lose points when you win a game (unless your rating is still provisional), but if your opponent has a much lower rating than you, you won't gain many points, if any. If you make a draw, you'll lose some points if your opponent is lower rated and win some if you are lower rated.

FAQ
Have you tried the "Help" icon in the taskbar above and then the FAQ, lots of info there on many subjects, including ratings. FAQ
Basicly RHP expects you to beat people lower rated than you are and to lose (most of the time!) to people higher rated than you. If you lose/draw a game to a lower rated player your rating will probably go down. If you draw/win a game with a higher rated player your rating will go up. The difference in your ratings (1200 v 1400, say) is also a factor. Knock off someone 500 points above you and you get a lot of rating points, but not so much if your opponent is only 10 points above you.
