I find that the tournaments alone are enough reason to subscribe.

First I know of was the Xmas Duel 2004 Tournament 429
The other (two) were just last month: New Year Starless Duel Tournament 1711 & New Year Starless Duel II Tournament 1712
So (as Phlabibit has mentioned) I would expect quite a long break until the next one - quite possbly two years.
If you really wanna play the tournies then subscribing is the best option. The ones for us non-sub-scum are only occasional and fill very quickly.
