First, welcome aboard. Second, content of your profile is impressive. Third, opponent ratings of your games in progress average 1203... ?

With all due respect, sir, you are highly ranked by RHP at 2077. What on God's green earth motivates you to rank on a 1203 teenage kid?

Yes. Kid fell victim to a queen trap. SwissGambit seizes the kid's thread to demonstrate his own mastery of the same trap. Why hijack an

innocent teenager's honest thread for self aggrandizment? Why not simply offer a few helpful mentoring suggestions or encouragement?

Good Queen snares - this one is rather amusing.
Note the Queen knows she is trapped but cannot do anything to prevent
herself from being taken in a move or two with Ba4, or Ne1.
My opponent sportingly resigned.

Hi Gramps, How are you these days? My opponent is 1590 is that OK?

Game 5260974

Feels odd to post a game in this forum which is usually the reserve of loonies.

Hmmm....

Hey! Everybody I've just eaten my library books and stuck a cockroach up my nose.

There, now this post does not look so out of place.

You well know that you're still the best (translation... sanity intact, always lyrical and humorous) and that

my okay isn't needed or worth a piddly $hit. Still pi$$ed off at you though for losing the new sunglasses.

Excuse my ignorance, but these games are exactly the same aren't thet? Is that due to the fact that they were played out in a known chess plan, or is there another law at work here....like a computer?

Serious question.

Thanks.

There's artistic value in a spiffy Queen trap no matter what the ratings of the players are.

And this 'innocent kid' will learn far more from suffering a loss due to a Queen trap than he would from any words I could say.

Edit: not so sure how 'honest' or 'innocent' he may be. From his profile:
ive been playing chess for 15 years and ive also played in the british championships and came joint second.
I think you have to be a tad bit higher than 1203, or 1400, to come second in the british championships. πŸ˜›

But they're not exactly the same. The opening moves are completely different.

They are similar in that they both trap a Queen that takes a pawn on g2 - but even the pattern of the trap isn't exactly the same. In the first game, the Q was threatened by a Bishop from e4; in the second game, the Q was threatened by a Rook from h2.

Trapping of the Queen is a common tactical theme in chess. The law at work here has nil to do with computers and everything to do with theme/pattern recognition.

Sorry, I only looked superficially. I'm out of my depth...😞

I love this game but I really don't understand it.

Could not see a thing with them bloody things on.

Filling up Bates Motel (my club) with under 1400's (max 10)
then coach them up to +1800 - this will take up all my time so am
imposing a total forum ban on myself (you will pleased to hear) as from
next week.

Hi divegeester - You are in Bates Motel, that was a wee free lesson from SG.

Don't worry, Pattern recognition will be covered in full.
