Whilst not quite a GM, I always allow my opponents to checkmate me if it's a quick one. i.e. I won't carry on when it's king and queen vs king just to make sure they know how to do it, but if I missed a forced mate in three then I'll play it out. I know how satisfying it is to checkmate your opponent and if they were clever enough to find a mate which I missed then they deserve the bonus of getting to say "checkmate".
Kramnik's loss to Deep Fritz was highly unusual in that he hadn't actually seen the mate in one! I think he started to wonder off the stage to stretch his legs and had to be called back to be told that the game was over.
