Carlsen v Anand 2014 + (Archangel Gabriel)

Only Chess

I've placed £5.00 on Annad and have the betting slip to prove it.

Some thoughts (not that many, it's time for you to add yours)
on the coming World Championship Match. I complain about the
venue and a glorious missed opportunity regarding two venues.

I have used a couple of Maggie and Vishy's games to replicate some RHP
blunders and have a couple of Archangels for the lovers of this defence.

Hi Lemon Drop.

You will see the proof slip on the blog, I got 11/4 - this will give me £18.74.

With it I will be able to buy the book of the match and a packet of crisps.

Someone with math skills should look at this.

I was wondering if you should bet 5 on Magnus too.

The most you could lose would be 3.75 and your gain would be cut to 8.74.

This way you can lose 5 for a gain of 13.74.

Mathematically, are you supposed to bet on both (and root for Anand)?

My mind is mush right now, so someone else will have to work it out.

Do you just divide 8.74 by 3.75 - and 13.74 by 5? If so, the pay out looks better to only bet on one. --- I need sleep.

On second thought, I shouldn't double guess the odds makers. They know what they are doing!

the house always protects itself against betting both sides
11/4 price on Anand would probably mean laying more than 4/1 if betting Carlson

No, based on the figures GP gave he should bet on both sides as it minimises his potential loss. Also the odds aren't necessarily from the same bookie. Arbitrage is possible here maybe.

The odds on Carlsen are worth it if you have a spare £10,000.
At 1-4 You will get back £12.500 a profit of £2,500.

I fear I may be leading you all astray.
Next blog I'll teach you how put on a five hore accumulator
and how to roll a cigarette.

CHESS:

I've seen quite a few posts on chessgames.com saying it
should be Caruana instead of Anand. Fair enough, but
Anand is there on merit. He won the Challengers.
Caruana's day will come but he has to earn the right.

If, per chance, Anand wins the title back. The next challengers will include Carlsen.

Interesting betting info aside in this thread, the chess that follows in the blog is excellent and well worth anyone's time.

Don't know if Anand got over the intimidation factor, which he suffered from in the first match. It will be good for chess if he does overcome that fear.

How's that fiver looking GP? Maybe Anand is taking a leaf out of Mohammed Ali's book and is planning to 'Rope'a dope' young Magnus 'Foreman' Carlsen into a 12 round knock out?? ๐Ÿ˜›
