Only Chess

It seems like there are some players here who are obsessed with their rating.
To the point of it consuming them, and taking over their sanity.
I play here to have fun, and get better.
It seems like a good opertunity to get away from blitz, and, the randomness of speed chess.
Corespondence Chess is a great way to get analytical, and explore the many great nuances of this great game.
It seems a pity there are a few players who take losing to an extreme

I think this thread is directed at somebody. 😉

Agreed. I think we all (well, most) play because we love the game and the competition. But then again, I think we all play chess too much.

And perhaps lose perspective that chess is but a trivial pursuit.

I am pretty sure Trivial Pursuit is that game with the little pizza wedges.

I know what you mean I found myself doing that on yahoo and used to get upset when I was beat by a much lower rated player, so I decided to disintegrate (resign at the point of winning) my rating and just play for fun. It did cross my mind to do it here, but as I like to play in tournaments it would not be fair where there is a rating ceiling and I know from the clan leagues that I really struggle against >2000 players so playing in opens leaves me no chane of winning (although I am playing in the 2006 site championship, but that's different as I think it's good to be part of that competition).

Yeah, and its a pity some A holes exhibit rating snobbery, saying they're better than others because they have a higher rating...
"Seeing as im the most expereinced player here, i think your all just going on wrong data. To listen to a bunch of 1500's makes no sense."

Look I sort of contributed (in a small way) no offence was meant by me and I think Rag was continuing an arguement with you from another thread rather than just having a go at you out of the blue?

So be it. Who cares? Everyone has their own likes and disikes. Dont let it bother ya. If thats what they get outta this site, so what? They're not hurting anyone. You play to "have fun and get better". Thats YOUR style. I wouldnt lose any sleep over it.

This is my philosophy. I was getting annoyed by other peoples jabs at me, but im going to use more control in the future.
The more i study, the better ill get, and my actions will speak volumes.
There are a precentage of people in society whos only game is to make other people misrable.
I know how to spot these people, and thus dont get affected by them as much as other people.
But sometimes its fun just to try to match the general Tone of these people, and play their game for a while

The only reason we were taking jabs at you was because you claimed prosoccer was cheating and didn't prove it.

Then for some dumb reason, you posted a game you were playing against someone in that same thread claiming he was a cheat, which obviously got deleted. Yet you were to dumb enough to notice and kept rumbling on about it, claim cheat this and that, while we all thought you were still talking about prosoccer.

So it's not us, it's you.

Funny you say this when you refuse to resign in our game when you know you've lost. Care too much for your rating? LOL Funny! Hypocrisy.
