I have started going in that direction yes. I have been working on the English opening with blitz games. I haven't yet used it OTB or correspondence.

I'm a big fan of it; if you finish a game and want to play one, I'll play one with you, white or black, rated or unrated. I'm not sure how much help I would be, but I'm willing nonetheless.

Well I'm quite prepared to give it a go because I detest 1...d5 as black & am not keen on the Dutch after 1.d4...f5 2.Bg5 either...
Adding to tomtom's post, there are plenty of other options out there to combat 1. d4 other than 1. ... d5 and the Dutch.

King's Indian
Queen's Indian
Grunfeld
Two Knight's Tango

Just to name a few...

but I'm expecting 1. d4 from you after seeing my mighty Caro-Kann in action!
Hi rubberjaw30,

I like Caro-Kann, but I can't find something good after:
1) e4, c6
2) d4, d5
3) e5...

I cannot find something good against that cramping pawn chane. I don't have it often here on RHP, but we play it very often with my friend over a board.
If you are good in Caro-Kann, could you, please, help me out.
P.S. By the way, does OTB mean over the board?

Best wishes to all players.

lol I agree

As black I'd say the Caro-Kann is the single easiest way to consistently achieve a draw. It's like e4, c6 1/2-1/2 😛.

I sometimes play 1 d4 and I sometimes play 1 e4. If after 1 d4 my opponent plays the Englund Gambit (1...e5), I'll play 2 e4, transposing into a Danish Gambit! A good way to deal with a gambiteer is to counter his gambit with a gambit of your own!

I will play one unrated(because I don't want to take your rating points away 😀 )
