a6 and then f4 were moves I would not choose. I would want to develop a piece before moving those pawns...

Just a personal view, but if an opponent plays e4 I will suspect that they will have a preferred opening in response to e5. I would recommend, c5, d5 or e6 as alternatives as the opponent may not be as comfortable. Have a look on the chess websites or youtube and look at one opening response to e4 in particular (Najdorf, Dragon, Scandinavian etc.) and spend ...[text shortened]... ng is experiment a little, the worst that could happen is that you might lose a few games 🙂

Castle early. Check the safety of the piece you're moving, twice and take pieces when you're given the chance.
